RE: 2007 Jayco JayFeather 29A-any advice??

Buffalodan: Yes, supposedly Jayco does have a good reputation. That is why we purchased one! However, the company puts you thru a heirarchy of reps where each one tries to stall you at their level. That is why the atty. general was necessary for us to get some real action. At the end, Jayco was going to allow us to choose another Jayco TT. We spent hours locating one only to be told they would not get the unit from one of their own dealers in Indiana!! Previously, the IN factory replaced the roof & that resulted in more leaks in different places. Plus the unit returned to our NC dealer with someone else's moldy shower curtain!! How is that for customer service?
Kampefirekid: Yes, we were treated badly by both our own dealership and the Jayco reps. The only helpful person we contacted there resigned to go with another company. Several of the reps told us bold faced lies. If your frame is sagging, take action with them NOW while you are under warranty.
Our issues began very early (3-4 months old) and our camper spent more time at the shop than with us. Camping trips were limited. We spent more than a full year documenting, photographing, hassling, etc. Unit owned from May 03 to Dec 04 when we received compensation for our Jayco junk. It was very sad as we absolutely loved the unit when we chose it! It was a Kiwi; now the Jayfeather line. We refer to it as the "unspeakable." Overall, a horrendous experience.
Good luck!
PS During our experience, we were contacted by at least 5 people from this forum who had similar issues with a Jayco. One person had the same year & model and also had delamination. We posted several questions here on the forum. Even had one member basically tell me to shut up about the situation (a big Jayco fan)!

RE: 2007 Jayco JayFeather 29A-any advice??

We owned a Jayco & it was a nightmare experience. If you manage to get a unit that is intact, it will probably be great. If you get a lemon that delaminates & leaks, the Jayco company is a bear to deal with. It took our state atty. general's office to help us unload the TT. Please look at other models. Good luck!
Please tell me what "delaminates" means...is that something that is due to the smooth exterior siding?
Delamination occurs when the fiberglass exterior separates usually indicated by bubbles. Delamination can occur due to inferior construction of the luan/glues/fiberglass process when manufactured OR it can happen when faulty construction allows water to leak between the layers. This can be difficult to detect until you have a BIG problem. In the case of our Jayco we had 2 different BIG issues: delamination on the front corner of the unit (large bubble in 6 mths.) and massive amounts of dimpling on the interior ceiling. When the dimples were broken with a pinpoint water came out. As time progressed, an increasing amount of leaks occurred damaging interior wood in more than one location. A moisture meter (used in boat yards on fiberglass hulls) indicated that the entire right side front exterior wall of TT was very wet.
Our current TT is fiberglass and we have absolutely no fiberglass issues at 5 years old!!
Do check every nook and cranny of a unit you are buying and preferably after a good hard rain. If you find any moisture, RUN from the unit.
Good luck. Feel free to PM me for more info.

RE: Mt. Airy/Mayberry CG

The photos look like the entire campground is in wide open sun. Are there any trees around/at the sites. Rate is definitely good!

RE: summer storage: leave roof vents open or closed?

We leave a Maxxair vent open all year round when stored. TT is not covered & it does fine over the winter. No problems with mold or condensation. It can be very humid here also.

RE: Tire Replacement Dilemma

You should be able to determine age of tires by reading tire codes. As said, 5 yrs. old is time to replace. We replaced tires on an '03 TT with Greenball Transmaster from Discount Tire. Virtually no air has leaked in almost 1 yr. and we are happy with the ride. Biggest issue is that it was impossible for us to locate American made tires. Would have gone with a Michelin tire if they had been made in our size. Best of luck.
As said, Maxxis get good reviews on this forum.

RE: Ants? bug bombs don't affect them, suggestions?

Try terro ant bait. Worked for a situation in a rental home with a bad infestation. They will eat the stuff and die. It is not messy; easy to use.

RE: Where to stay in Raleigh/Wake Forest NC area?

I have read that folks like the RV sites at the Raleigh Fairground. I think they are pretty cheap but without amenities other than elec/sewer. Might work for your situation. Sorry don't know how to contact other than search for the fairground office.
I have seen these sites & they can accomodate big rigs. Used for folks traveling in for events.

Route from Asheville, NC to Lake Jocassee, SC

Just wondering if anyone has advice for best route, towing a 23 ft. TT. We'll be coming west on I 40 to Asheville headed to Lake Jocassee.
Looking at 1) 25 south thru Hendersonville & Flat Rock to Hwy 11 OR
2) 25 South to 64 thru Brevard, then 276 south to Hwy 11 or 178 south to Hwy 11.
Any advice appreciated! Will be traveling on a Monday during the day.

RE: 2003 R-Vision Trail Cruiser 21 rbh

I cannot speak regarding the Trail Cruiser but wanted to say that we love our Trail Lite. Also an '03 and an R vision product. It probably has the same fridge as ours...cools well. We don't have an oven (ours is cabinet space) & we have a wonderful stainless microwave. We have a dinette booth and walkaround Q bed.
Ours is 23 ft. long. There is an R vision forum that you may want to check out. Sorry I don't know how to make a link. I would go check it out!

RE: question about camping...What do you think???

We consider it to be very rude!! As said, try not to end up in a spot near restroom path, etc. Seems like a lot of the parents don't know that going thru another's site is just plain bad camping etiquette; therefore, kids are not taught at a young age like we were.

RE: Are you camping this weekend and where?

Not camping anywhere. We refuse to camp on amateur weekends called "holidays".
Every time I read a post with this remark it just makes me laugh! i have been out for alot of holidays along with regular 1 and 2 week trips and have yet to see a difference!
There is a huge difference here in the South. NC and SC are both very popular states. The traffic + hordes of folks at campgrounds does not equal a pleasant holiday experience for us. We will travel AFTER the holidays. That is the advantage of retirement! :)

RE: Huntington Beach State Park

For Huntington Beach.....don't pick a site that appears to be oceanfront (see campground map) as you will not have a breeze. Been there, done it. As said, the sites have a lot of overgrowth, trees, dunes, etc between ocean & campground. If you choose one that looks a bit farther from the ocean, for example on the inner part of loop, you will have much more air. There are 2 walkways to the beach but recommend a wagon or beach buggy to carry your stuff.

RE: Best NC coast campgrounds

There are several OBX campgrounds. Emerald Isle has Holiday Travel Park, on the expensive side. Surf City, NC has a family campground. Good luck, wish we had more of a variety for coastal NC.

I second Sequicentennial if you are going thru Columbia. Near Charlotte, NC is Kings Mth. St. Park. Also Lake Wateree just off 77 between Charlotte and Columbia.

RE: Outer Banks in August without AC--smart or dumb?!

Well.....most all of NC from Piedmont to coast is known for high humidity in summers. You would most likely have an ocean breeze but personally I would not plan to camp anywhere during August without AC!! We camped in the VA mountains 1st week of June & it was much hotter than usual there. Used the AC!
Generally speaking, the recent NC summers have been the hottest ever.

RE: Devils Fork St Park, SC

For anyone who knows the roads leading to Devils Fork.....we can opt for traveling W on I40 or S on 77 to I85. Is one way much superior over the other? Pulling 23 ft TT . Any comments appreciated.
